Rehearsal Etiquette

Before the Rehearsal

  • Be Prepared: Bring your music, a sharpened pencil, and a  water bottle.
  • Be on Time: Arrive a few minutes early to settle in and be ready to start when the rehearsal begins.
  • Silence  Electronics: Turn off or silence your cell phone to avoid distractions.
  • Avoid Scents: Refrain from wearing perfumes or other scented products, as they can be bothersome to others.

During the Rehearsal

  •   Listen Actively: Give the conductor your undivided attention and follow their cues for dynamics, tempo, and musical phrasing.
  • Be Quiet: Avoid talking or gossiping during rehearsal, especially when the director is speaking or another voice part is rehearsing. There are no stupid questions. Please raise your hand. Do not blurt out a comment or question.
  • Focus on Your Part: If you're struggling, listen to the voices around you, learn the part, and avoid singing out loud with another section unless instructed to do so.
  • Maintain Good  Posture: Sit or stand with good posture to support your voice and project sound effectively.
  • Mark Your Music: Use your pencil to make notes and annotations on your score as instructed by the conductor.

General Conduct

  • Respect Others: Show consideration for your conductor and fellow choir members by participating fully and being respectful.
  • Stay Healthy: Stay home if you are sick to avoid spreading germs.
  • Practice Outside Rehearsal: Take the responsibility to learn your part and practice it at home to make the most of rehearsal time.
  • Contribute to the Choir's Success: Be a good "choir citizen" and contribute positively to the overall rehearsal environment.

Help for Singers

Our Summer Concert Music

We will post videos for our concert music here, so you can practice between rehearsals.

More Personal Singing Help Is Now Available!

We have added two new roles to our chorus that should provide more support for you.

Section Leaders -  Las Voces del Lago Section Leaders serve as vocal leaders, logistical supporters and morale-builders in their chorus sections. They help ensure musical excellence, smooth communication and a strong sense of ensemble unity. If you have a question about your part, ask your section leader for some help.
Section leaders are:

  • Janeene Williams, Soprano Section Leader
  • Pattye Simpson, Alto Section Leader
  • Michael Atkinson, Tenor Section Leader
  • Charles Hoag, Bass Section Leader

Chorus Buddy -  A Chorus Buddy is a welcoming partner assigned to new chorus members for at least their first few rehearsals. The Buddy helps newcomers feel comfortable, informed, and connected—both musically and socially. Existing singers might want a Chorus Buddy if you need a little extra help with things like  finding your place in a score, marking up the music, finding your pitch, etc. Each Chorus Buddy will be assigned no more than 2 singers. If you want a Chorus Buddy or if you can volunteer to be a Buddy, talk to your section leader.
